Hello to all you fine people. David and the podcast crew decided to release a podcast! I myself am trying to survive the offseason. Basketball is a good substitute, but nothing beats AHSAA football! I hope you all enjoy, and love interacting with you all and of course recording the podcast!

Listening while also going over the new basketball alignments. What an afternoon.

I've got some stuff to keep up with in the offseason to get me through the loss of high school football for a while. I'm big into the NBA which is about a month away from their playoffs. I've also been to a lot of hockey games this year as my Huntsville Havoc are fighting for home ice in the first round (football players aren't the only ones that can put on some pads and throw some hits). Plus there is always a good video game out there to be played which I'll spend too many hours playing.

As per the podcast it got me thinking about some of those old teams. Nowadays 98% of the games are played on Friday at 7pm but when did that become the case? The discussion about stadium lights made me wonder. Was it common for teams to play on Saturday or Friday afternoon if lights weren't always available?

Most all games were played on Friday afternoons until the stadiums had lights installed. Some of the bigger schools had lights as early as about 1937-39. Most schools had lights by about 1950.

The thing is that many of these so called lights were just placed on top of telephone poles so they were not very high or bright. It was just enough light to see what was going on. Many were very dimly lit in the end zones.

But most games were Friday afternoon with a few on Thursdays. The schools tried to avoid Saturdays to not conflict with the college football. Football was different back then. We will be doing a podcast in a few weeks about all the crazy and wacky things that happened between 1900-1960. It should be a good show.

This Sunday we will be recording another top ten show about the coaches. We do have a few more in the works also with some interesting topics.

I can recall in the early 90's when Woodland had lights only on one side of the field. It wasn't the best lighting. I also recall my dad telling me about football back in the day and how people would line their cars up down the sideline and turn the headlights on. Thanks for sharing the new podcast or I'd never noticed it. I'll give it a listen while I'm at the gym.

PS: Football is still happening! The USFL/CFL merger was a pretty big deal. GO STALLIONS!

I'm thrilled that you guys are doing these podcasts in the off season. There is nothing as exciting as high school football.

Would love to hear a podcast about the proposed rule changes that have been sent out.

I have not seen the proposed rule changes yet. But we could tackle that subject I suppose.
