2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gaylesville finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-9 record. Last year Gaylesville finished sixth in Class 1A region six with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Trojans lost as many games as in any season since 2004. The Trojans last playoff victory came during the 1975 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Gaylesville averaged scoring just 7.6 points a game. The Trojans also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 37.0 points a game. The Trojans would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-16 record. Since 2010, Gaylesville has gone a combined 25-56. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Gaylesville has not won much with a record of 81-164. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 1A and 325th in the AHSAA. The Trojans are led by head coach Kyle Garmon who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-36 over the past five seasons at Gaylesville. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Garmon. Coach Garmon's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 13-36 (26.5%). The Gaylesville Trojans will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Trojans remain in 1A but move from region six over to region seven. The Trojans enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Trojans will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Gaylesville will be to simply win some games. The Trojans open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Asbury on Friday, August 31 at Trojan Field. Last year the Asbury Rams finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 2A region six. The Rams closed out the regular season with a loss to Southeastern by a score of 48-12. Gaylesville and Asbury have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 4-0-0 record against the Rams.
