Lakeside completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region one, the Chiefs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Last year Lakeside reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Autauga Academy team by the score of 63-28. Since 2010, Lakeside has gone a combined 44-42. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AA over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lakeside has managed to compile a record of 102-141. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class AA and 27th in the AISA. The Chiefs will be under the direction of new head football coach Dan Klages as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Klages' overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 119-63 (65.4%). His 119 wins rank 9th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Klages' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won four region championships. The Lakeside Chiefs will play in Class AA region one during the 2018 season. The Chiefs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Chiefs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Glenwood School on Friday, August 24 at Reeves Field. Last year the Glenwood School Gators finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class AAA region one. The Gators lost in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs to Morgan Academy by a score of 21-14. Lakeside and Glenwood School have met a total of 17 times on the football field.
