2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Springwood finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Since 2010, Springwood has gone a combined 44-44. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AA over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Springwood has managed to compile a record of 152-115. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AA and 13th in the AISA. The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach John Gartman as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Gartman's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 19-15 (55.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Gartman's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship. The Springwood Wildcats will play in Class AA region one during the 2018 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AAA to AA. They will compete in region one this year. The Wildcats enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Springwood missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2018. The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Cornerstone Christian on Friday, August 24 at Springwood Stadium. Last year the Cornerstone Christian Chargers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class AA region one. The Chargers lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Escambia Academy by a score of 55-0. Springwood and Cornerstone Christian have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 7-4-0 record against the Chargers. They last met in 2015 with Springwood winning by a score of 40-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
