2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Saks completed the 2017 season with a 13-1 record. The Wildcats cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Saks captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Saks made a nice playoff run in 2017, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Fayette County team by the score of 34-7. No team at Saks ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The Wildcats hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Miller saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 6-5 record in 2016. The defense was very stingy last season as Saks ranked 47th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.6 points a game. Since 2010, Saks has gone a combined 69-24. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Saks has managed to compile a record of 149-116. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A and 138th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010. The Wildcats are led by head coach Jonathan Miller who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 58-15 over the past six seasons at Saks. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Miller. Coach Miller's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 58-15 (79.5%). The Saks Wildcats will play in Class 3A region six during the 2018 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region six this year. The Wildcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Wildcats are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Wildcats have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2010 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Alabama Christian on Friday, August 24 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the Alabama Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in third place in Class 4A region two. The Eagles lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 45-13. Saks and Alabama Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-1-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in with Saks returns 4A All-State running back Johnathon Cobb. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Wildcats also return defensive lineman Marreo Thomas. He was named to the first team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
