2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Glencoe finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Glencoe finished seventh in Class 3A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 1998. The defense allowed a team record 404 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Glencoe averaged scoring just 13.0 points a game. The Yellow Jackets also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.4 points a game. Since 2010, Glencoe has gone a combined 59-33. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Glencoe has managed to compile a record of 147-115. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A and 134th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets will be under the direction of new head football coach Brian Alred as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Alred's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 12-10 (54.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Alred's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Glencoe Yellow Jackets will play in Class 3A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Yellow Jackets remain in 3A but move from region five over to region six. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-49 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 3A and 43rd in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Yellow Jackets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. The Yellow Jackets open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Ranburne on Friday, August 31 at Ranburne Stadium. Last year the Ranburne Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-7 and in fourth place in Class 2A region five. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lamar County by a score of 17-7. Glencoe and Ranburne have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-2-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1947 with Glencoe winning by a score of 69-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
