St. Clair County completed the 2017 season with a 10-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region five, the Fighting Saints earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. St. Clair County made a nice playoff run in 2017, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Briarwood team by the score of 37-33. The Fighting Saints improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2012. The Fighting Saints won as many games as in any season since 1996. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Fighting Saints qualified for the playoffs. The Fighting Saints hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Glover saw improvement as they won ten games following a 3-7 record in 2016. Since 2010, St. Clair County has gone a combined 41-46. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, St. Clair County has managed to compile a record of 144-117. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 5A and 142nd in the AHSAA. The Fighting Saints are led by head coach Matt Glover who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-4 record in his first season at St. Clair County. The Fighting Saints saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Glover arrived. Under his direction the Fighting Saints have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Glover. The Fighting Saints open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent John Carroll on Friday, August 24 at John Carroll Field. Last year the John Carroll Cavaliers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 6A region five. The Cavaliers closed out the regular season with a loss to Pelham by a score of 64-46. St. Clair County and John Carroll have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Fighting Saints have a 5-7-0 record against the Cavaliers. They last met in 2015 with St. Clair County winning by a score of 39-14. St. Clair County returns 5A All-State receiver Javarrius Johnson. He was named to the first team last season.
