2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Vinemont finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Vinemont finished sixth in Class 3A region six with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Vinemont averaged scoring just 11.8 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.3 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Vinemont has gone a combined 26-54. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Vinemont has managed to compile a record of 99-146. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 3A and 284th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Stephen Robinson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Vinemont. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Robinson. Coach Robinson's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%). The Vinemont Eagles will play in Class 3A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 3A but move from region six over to region five. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Vinemont will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Falkville on Friday, August 31 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Falkville Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 2A region seven. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Reeltown by a score of 33-13. Vinemont and Falkville have met a total of 46 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 26-20-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2017 with Falkville winning by a score of 47-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
