2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carroll completed the 2017 season with a 11-1 record. The Eagles cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Carroll captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Carroll reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to St. Pauls by a score of 37-13. The defense was very stingy last season as Carroll ranked 19th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.1 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Eagles have gone 23-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Carroll has gone a combined 43-43. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Carroll has managed to compile a record of 99-152. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 5A and 293rd in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Roger McDonald who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-22 over the past five seasons at Carroll. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach McDonald. Coach McDonald's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 81-50 (61.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach McDonald's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won three region championships. The Carroll Eagles will play in Class 5A region two during the 2018 season. The Eagles enter the 2018 season riding a 23 game regular season winning streak. The Eagles should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Eagles open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent B.T. Washington on Friday, August 24 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the B.T. Washington Golden Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 5A region two. The Golden Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Russell County by a score of 27-12. Carroll and B.T. Washington have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 14-6-0 record against the Golden Eagles. They last met in 2017 with Carroll winning by a score of 49-12. Carroll returns 5A All-State punter John Goolsby. He was named to the second team last season. College prospects include: Jonathan Fells (5-11, 205) running back, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
