2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fruitdale finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Fruitdale finished eighth in Class 1A region one with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Pirates lost as many games as in any season since 2010. The defense allowed a team record 432 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Fruitdale averaged scoring just 6.9 points a game. The Pirates also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.2 points a game. The Pirates would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Fruitdale football program has struggled with a record of 24-59. Over the past 24 seasons, Fruitdale has managed to compile a record of 89-157. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 1A and 306th in the AHSAA. The Pirates are led by head coach Mike Davis who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Fruitdale. The Pirates have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis. The Fruitdale Pirates will play in Class 1A region one during the 2018 season. The Pirates enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Pirates will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Fruitdale will be to simply win some games. The Pirates open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent A.L. Johnson on Friday, August 24 at A.L. Johnson Stadium. Last year the A.L. Johnson Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 1A region one. Fruitdale and A.L. Johnson have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 8-13-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2017 with A.L. Johnson winning by a score of 42-22. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
