 2018 Preview

Hanceville finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Hanceville finished seventh in Class 3A region six with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2008. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1995 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Hanceville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.0 points a game.

Hanceville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.0 points a game.

The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Hanceville has gone a combined 39-44. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hanceville has managed to compile a record of 101-149. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 3A and 277th in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs will be under the direction of new head football coach Cody McCain as they enter the 2018 season.

Coach McCain's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 16-44 (26.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach McCain's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

The Hanceville Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 3A but move from region six over to region five.

The Bulldogs enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five.

The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Sumiton Christian on Friday, August 24 at Ray Talley Stadium. Last year the Sumiton Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 1A region seven. The Eagles ended last season on a positive note with a win over Marion County by a score of 56-55 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Hanceville and Sumiton Christian have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 2-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2007 with Sumiton Christian winning by a score of 41-6.
