2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Woodlawn finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Woodlawn finished eighth in Class 5A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Colonels have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Colonels last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Woodlawn averaged scoring just 11.4 points a game. The Colonels also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.3 points a game. The Colonels would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Woodlawn football program has struggled with a record of 18-63. Over the past 25 seasons, Woodlawn has not won much with a record of 62-181. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 58th in Class 5A and 362nd in the AHSAA. The Colonels have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. The Colonels will be under the direction of new head football coach Karl Powe as they enter the 2018 season. The Woodlawn Colonels will play in Class 5A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Colonels remain in 5A but move from region five over to region four. This season, the Colonels will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Colonels open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Sumter Central on Friday, August 24 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Sumter Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 5A region three. The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a loss to Oxford by a score of 47-6. Woodlawn and Sumter Central have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Colonels have a 2-0-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
