2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cherokee finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Cherokee finished eighth in Class 1A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Cherokee averaged scoring just 4.4 points a game. The Indians also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 47.8 points a game. The Indians would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, Cherokee has gone a combined 36-87. Their 29.3% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cherokee has managed to compile a record of 91-166. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 1A and 325th in the AHSAA. The Indians are led by head coach Ben Floyd who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at Cherokee. The Indians have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Floyd. Coach Floyd's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 1-19 (5.0%). The Cherokee Indians will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2022 season. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. This season, the Indians will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Indians open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Brindlee Mountain on Friday, August 19 at W.L. Harris Stadium. Last year the Brindlee Mountain Lions finished with an overall record of 0-9 and in seventh place in Class 3A region seven. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to D.A.R. by a score of 39-2. Cherokee and Brindlee Mountain have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Indians have a 1-1-0 record against the Lions. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
