2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Addison completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Addison just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region five with a 2-4 region record. The Bulldogs had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Addison has gone a combined 100-40. Their 71.4% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Addison has gone a combined 218-77. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 1A and 24th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Smothers who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 81-35 over the past ten seasons at Addison. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Smothers. Coach Smothers' overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 81-35 (69.8%). The Addison Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2022 season. The Bulldogs may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region eight this year. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. Addison came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Bulldogs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Winston County on Friday, August 19 at Malcolm Blake Stadium. Last year the Winston County Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region five. The Yellow Jackets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Falkville by a score of 64-22 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Addison and Winston County have met a total of 88 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 51-36-1 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2021 with Winston County winning by a score of 14-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
