2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Escambia County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Escambia County finished sixth in Class 4A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Blue Devils have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Escambia County averaged scoring just 10.8 points a game. The Blue Devils also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 35.9 points a game. The Blue Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Escambia County has gone a combined 40-83. Their 32.5% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Escambia County has not won much with a record of 76-179. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 4A and 350th in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils will be under the direction of new head football coach Vincent Harris as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Harris served as an assistant coach at T.R. Miller last season. Once again the Blue Devils will be rebuilding under their fifth head football coach in the last ten seasons. The Escambia County Blue Devils will play in Class 4A region one during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Blue Devils if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Escambia County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Blue Devils open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Cottage Hill Christian on Friday, August 19 at Hubert Barnes Field. Last year the Cottage Hill Christian Warriors finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in seventh place in Class 3A region one. The Warriors ended last season on a positive note with a win over St. Lukes by a score of 17-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Escambia County and Cottage Hill Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 2-0-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in with Escambia County returns 4A All-State Senior offensive lineman Kaiden Arnold. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
