2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Satsuma finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Satsuma finished sixth in Class 5A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Gators lost as many games as in any season since 2012. The Gators have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Satsuma averaged scoring just 11.4 points a game. The Gators also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.7 points a game. Since 2010, Satsuma has gone a combined 43-78. Their 35.5% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Satsuma has not won much with a record of 75-167. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 4A and 342nd in the AHSAA. The Gators have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Gators will be under the direction of new head football coach Rodney Jordan as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Jordan served as an assistant coach on the staff at Eufaula last season. The Satsuma Gators will play in Class 4A region one during the 2022 season. The Gators may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region one this year. The Gators enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Gators if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just a single win last year, Satsuma will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Gators open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Cottage Hill Christian on Friday, August 26 at Kingdom Stadium. Last year the Cottage Hill Christian Warriors finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in seventh place in Class 3A region one. The Warriors ended last season on a positive note with a win over St. Lukes by a score of 17-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Satsuma and Cottage Hill Christian have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Gators have a 5-2-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2017 with Cottage Hill Christian winning by a score of 14-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
