 2022 Preview 


       Chickasaw completed the 2021 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Chickasaw just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region one with a 2-4 region record.

       No team at Chickasaw ever won more games in a season than the six victories last year. The Chieftains have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022.

      

       Chickasaw is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only eight seasons. They have managed a record of 35-48 over the past eight years.




       The Chieftains will be under the direction of new head football coach Carl Herring as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Herring was named interim head coach at Chickasaw in July. He spent last season as the offensive coordinator at Chickasaw.

       The loss of their coach late in the summer and their star running back could prove a problem for the Chieftains early in the season.

       The Chickasaw Chieftains will play in Class 2A region one during the 2022 season. The Chieftains may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region one this year.

       The Chieftains will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season. Chickasaw missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Chieftains open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent LeFlore on Friday, August 19 at Dotson Field. Last year the LeFlore Rattlers finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 5A region one. The Rattlers closed out the regular season with a loss to Baldwin County by a score of 49-8.

       Chickasaw and LeFlore have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Chieftains have a 1-1-0 record against the Rattlers. They last met in with

       Chickasaw returns 3A All-State Senior running back Jarius Houston. He was named to the second team last season.
