2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lawrence County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Lawrence County finished seventh in Class 5A region eight with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Devils lost as many games as in any season since 2010. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Red Devils hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 5-6 record in 2020. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Lawrence County averaged scoring just 11.7 points a game. The Red Devils also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 35.8 points a game. Since 2010, Lawrence County has gone a combined 42-82. Their 33.9% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lawrence County has managed to compile a record of 107-155. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A and 277th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Trent Walker who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Lawrence County. The Red Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Walker. The Lawrence County Red Devils will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2022 season. The Red Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-50 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 5A and 109th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Red Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Lawrence County will be to simply win some games. The Red Devils open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Danville on Friday, August 19 at Red Devil Stadium. Last year the Danville Hawks finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region eight. The Hawks ended last season on a positive note with a win over Lawrence County by a score of 35-28 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Lawrence County and Danville have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 8-4-0 record against the Hawks. They last met in 2021 with Danville winning by a score of 35-28. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
