2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lincoln completed the 2021 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region six, the Golden Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Lincoln's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Russellville by a score of 41-14. Since 2010, Lincoln has gone a combined 58-75. Their 43.6% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lincoln has managed to compile a record of 148-138. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 5A and 170th in the AHSAA. The Golden Bears are led by head coach Matt Zedaker who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-29 over the past five seasons at Lincoln. Under his direction the Golden Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Zedaker. Coach Zedaker's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 25-29 (46.3%). The Lincoln Golden Bears will play in Class 5A region six during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Golden Bears could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Unfortunately, Lincoln finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Golden Bears open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Talladega on Friday, August 19 at Keith Howard Memorial Stadium. Last year the Talladega Tigers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 5A region four. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Shelby County by a score of 35-21. Lincoln and Talladega have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 8-11-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2019 with Lincoln winning by a score of 31-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
