 2022 Preview 


       Russell County completed the 2021 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Russell County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region two with a 3-4 region record.

       The Warriors improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 1998. The Warriors won as many games as in any season since 1998. The Warriors last playoff victory came during the 1998 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Warriors hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Griggs saw improvement as they won six games following a 0-9 record in 2020.

       Since 2010, the Russell County football program has struggled with a record of 28-91.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Russell County has not won much with a record of 60-188. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 6A and 379th in the AHSAA. The Warriors have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time.




       The Warriors are led by head coach Dillon Griggs who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-4 record in his first season at Russell County. The Warriors saw improvement from a 0-9 record the season before coach Griggs arrived. The Warriors have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Griggs.

       Coach Griggs' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 6-4 (60.0%).

       The Russell County Warriors will play in Class 6A region two during the 2022 season.

       The Warriors will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. Russell County has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2013 but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Warriors open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Harris County GA on Friday, August 26 at Corbett-Mitchell Stadium.

       Russell County and Harris County GA have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 6-5-1 record against Harris County GA. They last met in 2018 with Harris County GA winning by a score of 35-14.
