2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greenville completed the 2021 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Greenville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to UMS-Wright by a score of 14-12. The defense was very stingy last season as Greenville ranked 32nd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.3 points a game. Greenville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.5 points a game. Since 2010, Greenville has gone a combined 84-53. Their 61.3% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Greenville has managed to compile a record of 160-120. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 5A and 118th in the AHSAA. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Patrick Browning as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Browning was the head football coach at Pike Road in 2021 leading them to a state championship. Coach Browning's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 42-7 (85.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Browning's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won three region championships. Coach Browning won a state championship at Pike Road in 2021. The Greenville Tigers will play in Class 5A region two during the 2022 season. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Tigers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Park Crossing on Friday, August 26 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Park Crossing Thunderbirds finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 6A region two. The Thunderbirds closed out the regular season with a loss to Jeff Davis by a score of 35-7. Greenville and Park Crossing have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-1-0 record against the Thunderbirds. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
