Thompson completed the 2021 season with a 13-1 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region three, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. The Warriors reeled off four straight playoff wins to claim the Class 7A State Championship by defeating Central Phenix City at the Alabama Super Seven 38-22 in Birmingham. The 636 points scored by the Warriors last year were a team record in a single season. The high-scoring Thompson offense ranked 4th in the AHSAA. They averaged 45.4 points a game. The Warriors defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 4th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 7.1 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Warriors have gone 27-1 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Thompson has gone a combined 82-55. Their 59.9% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Thompson has managed to compile a record of 148-125. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 7A and 155th in the AHSAA. The Warriors are led by head coach Mark Freeman who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 72-15 over the past seven seasons at Thompson. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. Coach Freeman won six state championships prior to arriving at Thompson, the last coming in 2013 at Spanish Fort. Playing the toughest schedule in the state will prove to be difficult for the Warriors. They start with Georgia state champion Buford. Then play Tennessee state champion Lipscomb Academy the next week. Later in the season they host 6A champion Clay-Chalkville. The Lipscomb Academy game will be televised by ESPN nationally. The Thompson Warriors will play in Class 7A region three during the 2022 season. The Warriors have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 81-41 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 7A and 4th in the AHSAA. Thompson enters the 2022 season with a string of 29 consecutive wins on their home field at Warriors Stadium. The Warriors enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region three and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the North in the Class 7A title game. The Warriors open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Buford GA on Friday, August 19 at . This will be the second meeting between Thompson and Buford GA on the football field. The Warriors have a 0-1-0 record against Buford GA. They last met in with Thompson returns 7A All-State defensive lineman Peter Woods. He was named to the first team last season. The Warriors also return offensive lineman Stanton Ramil.
