2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
West Point completed the 2021 season with a 6-4 record. Last year West Point just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region seven with a 2-4 region record. The Warriors improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. The Warriors last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, West Point has gone a combined 56-69. Their 44.8% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, West Point has managed to compile a record of 113-148. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 5A and 256th in the AHSAA. The Warriors are led by head coach Don Farley who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 46-49 over the past nine seasons at West Point. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Farley. Coach Farley's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 46-49 (48.4%). The West Point Warriors will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Warriors remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region eight. With a little luck and some improvement, the Warriors could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Unfortunately, West Point finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. West Point came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Warriors open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Good Hope on Friday, August 19 at Warrior Field. Last year the Good Hope Raiders finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in second place in Class 4A region six. The Raiders lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Madison Academy by a score of 35-28. West Point and Good Hope have met a total of 45 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 25-19-1 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2021 with West Point winning by a score of 1-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
