 2022 Preview 


       Wilcox Central finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Wilcox Central finished seventh in Class 4A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Jaguars have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2001 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Jaguars last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Wilcox Central averaged scoring just 6.4 points a game. The Jaguars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 39.3 points a game.

       The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Wilcox Central football program has struggled with a record of 16-104.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Wilcox Central has not won much with a record of 79-179. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 4A and 344th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2001.




       The Jaguars are led by head coach Reggie Powell who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 2-38 over the past four seasons at Wilcox Central. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Powell.

       Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 2-38 (5.0%).

       The Wilcox Central Jaguars will play in Class 4A region one during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Jaguars remain in 4A but move from region three over to region one.

       This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

       The Jaguars open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Sumter Central on Friday, August 19 at Wilcox Central Jaguars Athletic Complex. Last year the Sumter Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 0-9 and in eighth place in Class 4A region three.

       Wilcox Central and Sumter Central have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 2-3-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2021 with Wilcox Central winning by a score of 22-0.
