2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Arab completed the 2021 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Arabian Knights earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Arab's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Homewood by a score of 42-14. The Arabian Knights won as many games as in any season since 2012. The defense was very stingy last season as Arab ranked 24th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.1 points a game. Since 2010, Arab has gone a combined 58-69. Their 45.7% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Arab has managed to compile a record of 93-165. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A and 311st in the AHSAA. The Arabian Knights are led by head coach Lee Ozmint who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-13 over the past three seasons at Arab. Under his direction the Arabian Knights have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ozmint. Coach Ozmint's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 96-50 (65.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Ozmint's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won one region championship. If Arab can win four games this season, Coach Ozmint will reach the 100 win milestone. The Arab Arabian Knights will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2022 season. The Arabian Knights may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region seven this year. The Arabian Knights should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Arabian Knights open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Albertville on Thursday, August 18 at McCord Field. Last year the Albertville Aggies finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 7A region four. The Aggies closed out the regular season with a loss to Guntersville by a score of 49-28. Arab and Albertville have met a total of 86 times on the football field. The Arabian Knights have a 35-47-4 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2021 with Arab winning by a score of 35-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
