 2022 Preview 


       Bayside Academy completed the 2021 season with a 9-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region one, the Admirals earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Bayside Academy reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 31-0.

       The Admirals won as many games as in any season since 2015.

       Since 2010, Bayside Academy has gone a combined 91-52. Their 63.6% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 21 seasons, Bayside Academy has managed to compile a record of 131-100. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 4A and 123rd in the AHSAA.




       The Admirals are led by head coach Phil Lazenby who is entering his sixteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 109-67 over the past fifteen seasons at Bayside Academy. Under his direction the Admirals have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times. They have won one region crown with Coach Lazenby.

       Coach Lazenby's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-five season stands at 194-103 (65.3%). His 194 wins rank 15th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Lazenby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty times and won seven region championships.

       Coach Lazenby needs six wins this season to reach the coveted 200 win milestone.

       With half his roster never having played a down of varsity football, Coach Lazenby will have a very inexperienced squad this season. Somehow he always manages to develop his youg players by season end into a playoff caliber team. This year should be no different for the Admirals.

       The Bayside Academy Admirals will play in Class 4A region one during the 2022 season. The Admirals move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Admirals enter the 2022 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Admirals will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season.

       The Admirals open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Elberta on Friday, August 19. Last year the Elberta Warriors finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 5A region one. The Warriors closed out the regular season with a loss to Bayside Academy by a score of 35-27.

       Bayside Academy and Elberta have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Admirals have a 4-0-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2021 with Bayside Academy winning by a score of 35-27.
