Briarwood completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region five, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Briarwood reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 56-21. Since 2010, Briarwood has gone a combined 114-41. Their 78.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 6A and 8th in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. The Lions are led by head coach Matthew Forester who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-7 over the past three seasons at Briarwood. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Forester. Coach Forester's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 30-7 (81.1%). The Lions are looking for big things this season behind Clemson committed quarterback Christopher Vizzina. This could be the year they make a trip to the state championship game come December. The Briarwood Lions will play in Class 6A region three during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 6A but move from region five over to region three. Briarwood enters the 2022 season with a string of 8 consecutive wins on their home field at Lions Pride Stadium. The Lions should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Lions have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1992 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Lions open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Clay-Chalkville on Friday, August 19 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Clay-Chalkville Cougars finished with an overall record of 15-0 and in first place in Class 6A region six.
