2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Calera completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region three, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Calera's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Spanish Fort by a score of 41-31. The Eagles improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. It marked the first time since the 2017 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Calera has gone a combined 72-60. Their 54.5% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Calera has managed to compile a record of 154-121. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 6A and 127th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Jason Hamlin who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-4 record in his first season at Calera. The Eagles saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Hamlin arrived. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hamlin. Coach Hamlin's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 7-4 (63.6%). After three straight losing seasons Coach Hamlin got the Eagles back on the winning track last year. With over 20 seniors on this years squad it could be a special season in Calera. The defense should be very good having returned nine starters from last years team. The Calera Eagles will play in Class 6A region three during the 2022 season. Calera enters the 2022 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Ricky M. Cairns Memorial Stadium. The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Eagles open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Spain Park on Friday, August 19 at Jaguar Stadium at Bob Finley Field. Last year the Spain Park Jaguars finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 7A region three. The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a loss to Hueytown by a score of 58-21. Calera and Spain Park have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-3-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
