 2022 Preview 


       Center Point completed the 2021 season with a 9-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region six, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Center Point lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Pleasant Grove team by a score of 49-21.

       Since 2010, Center Point has gone a combined 63-71. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Center Point has managed to compile a record of 116-155. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 6A and 262nd in the AHSAA.




       The Eagles are led by head coach George Bates who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-18 over the past four seasons at Center Point. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bates.

       Coach Bates' overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 70-48 (59.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bates' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship.

       The Center Point Eagles will play in Class 6A region six during the 2022 season. The Eagles move up in classification to Class 6A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Eagles open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Jasper on Friday, August 19 at Ki-Ro/Gambrell Field. Last year the Jasper Vikings finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region six. The Vikings ended last season on a positive note with a win over Bessemer City by a score of 41-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Center Point and Jasper have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-1-0 record against the Vikings. They last met in 2017 with Jasper winning by a score of 30-7.

       Center Point returns 5A All-State Junior defensive back KeMarius Horne. He was named to the second team last season.
