2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Deshler finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Deshler finished seventh in Class 4A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Deshler took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2016. Since 2010, Deshler has gone a combined 94-55. Their 63.1% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Deshler has gone a combined 239-89. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A and 26th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Patrick Malone as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Malone was the defensive coordinator at Brooks last season. Coach Malone's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-16 (23.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Malone's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Deshler Tigers will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region eight over to region seven. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Deshler came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Madison Academy on Friday, August 19 at Bill Washington Stadium. Last year the Madison Academy Mustangs finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in first place in Class 4A region seven. The Mustangs lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Oneonta by a score of 28-24. Deshler and Madison Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-3-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2013 with Madison Academy winning by a score of 45-14. Deshler returns 4A All-State Senior defensive lineman Walter Goggins. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
