2022 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Keith completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Keith captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bears since the 1997 season. Keith lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Brantley team by a score of 20-14. No team at Keith ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 1970. The defense was very stingy last season as Keith ranked 3rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 7.0 points a game. Since 2010, Keith has gone a combined 73-59. Their 55.3% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Keith has managed to compile a record of 117-146. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 1A and 249th in the AHSAA. The Bears are led by head coach Anthony Lumpkin who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-17 over the past four seasons at Keith. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Lumpkin. Coach Lumpkin's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 28-17 (62.2%). The Keith Bears will play in Class 1A region three during the 2022 season. The Bears should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Bears open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Bullock County on Friday, August 19 at Bryant Foster Field. Last year the Bullock County Hornets finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in seventh place in Class 4A region two. The Hornets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Carver Birmingham by a score of 1-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Keith and Bullock County have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Bears have a 4-2-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 1974 with Keith winning by a score of 6-0. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
