 2022 Preview 


       Isabella completed the 2021 season with a 8-4 record. Last year Isabella captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Isabella reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to B.B. Comer by a score of 34-25.

       Since 2010, Isabella has gone a combined 88-47. Their 65.2% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Isabella has managed to compile a record of 150-126. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 2A and 150th in the AHSAA.




       The Mustangs are led by head coach Tate Leonard who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 58-15 over the past six seasons at Isabella. Under his direction the Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Leonard.

       Coach Leonard's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 58-15 (79.5%).

       The Isabella Mustangs will play in Class 2A region four during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Mustangs remain in 2A but move from region three over to region four. The Mustangs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-50 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 2A and 75th in the AHSAA.

       The Mustangs enter the 2022 season having won 11 straight region games.

       The Mustangs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2015 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2022.

       The Mustangs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Maplesville on Friday, August 26 at Bill Nabors Stadium. Last year the Maplesville Red Devils finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in first place in Class 1A region four. The Red Devils lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 41-7.

       Isabella and Maplesville have met a total of 82 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 18-59-5 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 2021 with Maplesville winning by a score of 28-21.

       Isabella returns 2A All-State Junior defensive back DreVon Lee. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
