2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Woodland completed the 2021 season with a 5-8 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region five, the Bobcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Woodland lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Wadley team by a score of 27-0. Woodland was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bobcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.5 points a game. Since 2010, Woodland has gone a combined 64-73. Their 46.7% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Woodland has managed to compile a record of 149-140. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 2A and 173rd in the AHSAA. The Bobcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Joel Schrenk as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Schrenk was the head football coach at Hazel Green in 2021. Coach Schrenk's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 56-50 (52.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Schrenk's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships. The Woodland Bobcats will play in Class 2A region four during the 2022 season. The Bobcats move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. With a little luck and some improvement, the Bobcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. The Bobcats open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Victory Christian on Friday, August 19 at Richard Adams Stadium. Last year the Victory Christian Lions finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 1A region five. Woodland and Victory Christian have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 5-2-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2021 with Woodland winning by a score of 14-6. Woodland returns 1A All-State Senior defensive lineman Blu Herren. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
