2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Vincent completed the 2021 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Vincent just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region four with a 3-4 region record. The Yellow Jackets improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2017. The Yellow Jackets won as many games as in any season since 2013. Since 2010, Vincent has gone a combined 51-75. Their 40.5% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Vincent has managed to compile a record of 119-148. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 2A and 239th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Lucas Weatherford who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-27 over the past four seasons at Vincent. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Weatherford. Coach Weatherford's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 14-27 (34.1%). The Yellow Jackets will return a lot of talent on both sides of the football in 2022. Hopes are they continue to build on their winning record from last season. The Vincent Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region four during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Yellow Jackets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Unfortunately, Vincent finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. Vincent has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2018 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Yellow Jackets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Ragland on Friday, August 19 at Harold Garrett Stadium. Last year the Ragland Purple Devils finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 1A region five. The Purple Devils lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 76-60. Vincent and Ragland have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 4-4-0 record against the Purple Devils. They last met in 1957 with Ragland winning by a score of 14-6. Vincent returns 2A All-State Senior athlete Tray Youngblood. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
