 2022 Preview 


       Luverne completed the 2021 season with a 9-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Luverne reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Lanett by a score of 33-0.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Luverne ranked 10th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 9.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Luverne has gone a combined 101-41. Their 71.1% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Luverne has gone a combined 211-94. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 2A and 38th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Jason Rowell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-6 over the past two seasons at Luverne. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Rowell.

       Coach Rowell's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 27-16 (62.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Rowell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Luverne Tigers will play in Class 2A region three during the 2022 season.

       Luverne enters the 2022 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Glenn Daniel Stadium.

       The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 1982 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2022.

       The Tigers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Brantley on Friday, August 19 at Glenn Daniel Stadium. Last year the Brantley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 1A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 21-18.

       Luverne and Brantley have met a total of 90 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 56-31-3 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2020 with Brantley winning by a score of 49-0.

       Luverne returns 2A All-State Junior linebacker Lakendrick Jordan. He was named to the second team last season.
