2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Calhoun finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Calhoun finished seventh in Class 2A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1999 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Calhoun averaged scoring just 3.4 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 39.7 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-19 record. Since 2010, the Calhoun football program has struggled with a record of 11-108. Over the past 25 seasons, Calhoun has not won much with a record of 39-213. Their 16.0% winning percentage ranks 61st in Class 1A and 391st in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1999. The Tigers are led by head coach Ervin Starr who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-48 over the past five seasons at Calhoun. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Starr. Coach Starr's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 1-48 (2.0%). The Calhoun Tigers will play in Class 1A region four during the 2022 season. The Tigers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region four this year. The Tigers enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 26 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Calhoun will be to simply win some games. The Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Barbour County on Friday, August 19 at Barbour County Stadium. Last year the Barbour County Jaguars finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region four. Calhoun and Barbour County have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-3-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2005 with Barbour County winning by a score of 34-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
