 2022 Preview

Notasulga completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region four, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Notasulga reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Keith by a score of 19-2.

The Blue Devils won as many games as in any season since 2001.

The defense was very stingy last season as Notasulga ranked 5th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 8.3 points a game.

Since 2010, Notasulga has gone a combined 81-55. Their 59.6% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Notasulga has managed to compile a record of 153-127. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A and 141st in the AHSAA.

The Blue Devils are led by head coach Anthony Jones who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 49-30 over the past seven seasons at Notasulga. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won one region crown with Coach Jones.

Coach Jones' overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 49-30 (62.0%).

The Notasulga Blue Devils will play in Class 1A region four during the 2022 season. The Blue Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 52-44 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 1A and 122nd in the AHSAA.

Notasulga enters the 2022 season with a string of 8 consecutive wins on their home field at Blue Devils Stadium.

The Blue Devils should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2013 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2022. Notasulga simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 64 students, the Blue Devils are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful.

The Blue Devils open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Lanett on Friday, August 19 at Morgan-Washburn Stadium. Last year the Lanett Panthers finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 2A region four. The Panthers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Highland Home by a score of 15-14.

Notasulga and Lanett have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 0-13-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2019 with Lanett winning by a score of 28-13.

Notasulga returns 1A All-State Junior athlete Tyrese Mccullough. He was named to the first team last season.
