2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Maplesville completed the 2021 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Maplesville captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Maplesville lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Sweet Water team by a score of 41-7. The defense was very stingy last season as Maplesville ranked 20th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.9 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have gone 21-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Maplesville has gone a combined 142-17. Their 89.3% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Maplesville has gone a combined 256-63. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A and 7th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2004. The Red Devils are led by head coach Brad Abbott who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-8 over the past three seasons at Maplesville. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Abbott. Coach Abbott's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 74-41 (64.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Abbott's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won two region championships. The Maplesville Red Devils will play in Class 1A region four during the 2022 season. The Red Devils enter the 2022 season having won 6 straight region games. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Maplesville has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Red Devils should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Red Devils have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2003 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Red Devils open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Meek on Friday, August 19 at Meek Field. Last year the Meek Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in third place in Class 1A region six. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Woodland by a score of 21-14. Maplesville and Meek have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 0-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in with Maplesville returns 1A All-State Senior athlete Jakavion Jackson. He was named to the second team last season. The Red Devils also return Senior kicker Landon Sanchez. He was named to the first team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
