 2022 Preview 


       Verbena completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Verbena finished sixth in Class 1A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, the Verbena football program has struggled with a record of 35-86.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Verbena has managed to compile a record of 94-166. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 1A and 318th in the AHSAA.




       The Red Devils are led by head coach Allen Brothers who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Verbena. The Red Devils saw improvement from a 3-6 record the season before coach Brothers arrived. The Red Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brothers.

       Coach Brothers' overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 29-53 (35.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Brothers' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

       The Verbena Red Devils will play in Class 1A region four during the 2022 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Red Devils if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season.

       The Red Devils open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Coosa on Friday, August 19 at Central Stadium. Last year the Central Coosa Cougars finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in sixth place in Class 2A region three. The Cougars ended last season on a positive note with a win over Talladega County Central by a score of 60-20 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Verbena and Central Coosa have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 3-1-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2021 with Verbena winning by a score of 36-8.
