 2022 Preview

Brantley completed the 2021 season with a 12-1 record. The Bulldogs cruised through the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record going into the post season. Last year Brantley captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Brantley made a nice playoff run in 2021, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Sweet Water team by the score of 21-18.

The defense was very stingy last season as Brantley ranked 16th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.7 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have gone 25-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Brantley has gone a combined 124-29. Their 81.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Brantley has gone a combined 266-58. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A and 4th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2001.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Roland Jones Jr. who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 43-8 over the past four seasons at Brantley. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Jones Jr..

Coach Jones Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 126-38 (76.8%). His 126 wins rank 43rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Jones Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won nine region championships.

The Brantley Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region two during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 1A but move from region one over to region two.

The Bulldogs enter the 2022 season riding a 24 game regular season winning streak. Brantley has won 7 consecutive region games.

The Bulldogs enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region two and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 1A Super Seven come December. The Bulldogs have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 1996 and this year should be no exception.

The Bulldogs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Luverne on Friday, August 19 at Glenn Daniel Stadium. Last year the Luverne Tigers finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lanett by a score of 33-0.

Brantley and Luverne have met a total of 90 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 31-56-3 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2020 with Brantley winning by a score of 49-0.

Brantley returns 1A All-State Senior linebacker Kedrick Brown. He was named to the first team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior running back Robert Shine. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Bulldogs also return Junior offensive lineman Romeo Presseley. He was named to the honorable mention team.
