 2022 Preview 


       Florala finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Florala just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region one with a 3-4 region record.

       The Wildcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-3 record in 2020.

       Since 2010, Florala has gone a combined 49-70. Their 41.2% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Florala has managed to compile a record of 114-148. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A and 246th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Jordan Cantrell as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Cantrell was the head football coach at Elmore County last season.

       Coach Cantrell's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 35-50 (41.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Cantrell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Florala Wildcats will play in Class 1A region two during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 1A but move from region one over to region two.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Florala came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Red Level on Friday, August 26 at Matthews Stadium. Last year the Red Level Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-5 and in fifth place in Class 1A region one. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over J.F. Shields by a score of 49-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Florala and Red Level have met a total of 70 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 42-28-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2021 with Florala winning by a score of 14-0.

       Florala returns 1A All-State Senior athlete Zane Weeks. He was named to the second team last season.
