2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wetumpka completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region three, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Wetumpka's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Saraland by a score of 37-7. Wetumpka was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Indians want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.5 points a game. Since 2010, Wetumpka has gone a combined 81-58. Their 58.3% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wetumpka has managed to compile a record of 168-116. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 6A and 100th in the AHSAA. The Indians will be under the direction of new head football coach Bear Woods as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Woods arrives in Wetumpka after playing football in the CFL last season. The Wetumpka Indians will play in Class 6A region two during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Indians remain in 6A but move from region three over to region two. With a little luck and some improvement, the Indians could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2012 and hopes are high to extend that streak. The Indians open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Jeff Davis on Friday, August 19 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Jeff Davis Volunteers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 7A region two. The Volunteers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Park Crossing by a score of 35-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Wetumpka and Jeff Davis have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Indians have a 5-2-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2011 with Jeff Davis winning by a score of 21-23. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
