 2023 Preview 


       Blount finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Blount finished sixth in Class 6A region one with a 3-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Blount averaged scoring just 13.2 points a game.

       Since 2010, Blount has gone a combined 90-56. Their 61.6% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Blount has managed to compile a record of 149-123. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 6A and 137th in the AHSAA.




       The Leopards will be under the direction of new head football coach Ramon Nelson as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Nelson spent the 2022 season as the quarterbacks coach at Theodore, his alma mater, after spending four years as head coach at Satsuma. Over the course of his career, Coach Nelson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       With their fourth head coach in the last four seasons, the Leopards will be working to get back to championship form after back-to-back losing records the past two years.

       The Leopards will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season.

      Deshune Williams will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,188 yards and 10 TDs in 2022.

       The Leopards open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Vigor on Saturday, August 26 at Prichard Stadium. Last year the Vigor Wolves finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in fifth place in Class 5A region one.

       Blount and Vigor have met a total of 53 times on the football field. The Leopards have a 14-39-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2022 with Vigor winning by a score of 7-0.

       Blount lost 6A All-State  defensive back Jerry Brand to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Bart Starr received coaching from Kentucky great Babe Parilli his senior season at Sidney Lanier in hopes of joining Bear Bryant at Kentucky. He had to settle for Alabama.
