2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Childersburg finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Childersburg finished sixth in Class 3A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2011. Childersburg was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.6 points a game. Childersburg struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.7 points a game. Since 2010, Childersburg has gone a combined 47-88. Their 34.8% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Childersburg has managed to compile a record of 98-158. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 3A and 305th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Johnny Johnson who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-22 over the past three seasons at Childersburg. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Johnson. The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-47 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 3A and 40th in the AHSAA. The Tigers enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Munford on Friday, August 25 at Munford Stadium. Last year the Munford Lions finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region four. The Lions lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to American Christian by a score of 16-13. Childersburg and Munford have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 16-15-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2022 with Munford winning by a score of 28-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
