2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Clements finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Clements finished sixth in Class 3A region eight with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Colts lost as many games as in any season since 2015. The Colts last playoff victory came during the 1988 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Clements struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 43.6 points a game. Since 2010, the Clements football program has struggled with a record of 33-100. Over the past 25 seasons, Clements has not won much with a record of 72-185. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 3A and 359th in the AHSAA. The Colts have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Colts are led by head coach Michael Parker who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-34 over the past five seasons at Clements. Under his direction the Colts have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Parker. Over the course of his career, Coach Parker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times . The Colts will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just 2 wins last year, Clements will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Jayden Gilbert will be back this season at running back after rushing for 785 yards and 5 TDs in 2022. He also caught 24 passes for another 532 yards. The Colts open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Holly Pond on Friday, August 25 at Thomas-Michelfelder Field. Last year the Holly Pond Broncos finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 2A region six. The Broncos closed out the regular season with a loss to Vinemont by a score of 42-22. Clements and Holly Pond have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Colts have a 2-0-0 record against the Broncos. They last met in 2022 with Clements winning by a score of 48-34. The Colts return 3A All-State Senior defensive back Jayden Gilbert. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
