Elkmont finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Elkmont finished seventh in Class 3A region eight with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Elkmont averaged scoring just 10.8 points a game. The Red Devils also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 45.7 points a game. The Red Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Elkmont football program has struggled with a record of 32-101. Over the past 25 seasons, Elkmont has not won much with a record of 84-175. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 3A and 342nd in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Chris Bunio who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Elkmont. The Red Devils saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Bunio arrived. The Red Devils have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bunio. The Red Devils enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Red Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Red Devils open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Sheffield on Thursday, August 24 at Walton R. Wright Stadium. Last year the Sheffield Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region eight. Elkmont and Sheffield have met a total of 16 times on the football field.
