 2023 Preview 


       Curry finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Curry finished eighth in Class 4A region five with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Yellow Jackets last playoff victory came during the 1996 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Curry was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.4 points a game.

       Curry struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.8 points a game.

       The Yellow Jackets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Curry football program has struggled with a record of 25-107.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Curry has not won much with a record of 52-201. Their 21.0% winning percentage ranks 61st in Class 4A and 387th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1996.




       The Yellow Jackets will be under the direction of new head football coach Jace Cordell as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Cordell was an assistant under Cordova head football coach Shane Smothers. Cordell graduated from Cordova in 2009 and was a member of the Blue Devils 2007 State Championship team.

       This season, the Yellow Jackets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Cold Springs on Friday, August 25 at Travis Hudson Stadium. Last year the Cold Springs Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 2A region five.

       Curry and Cold Springs have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Cold Springs winning by a score of 36-14.
