2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dale County finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Dale County finished seventh in Class 4A region two with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Warriors lost as many games as in any season since 2015. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Dale County averaged scoring just 13.6 points a game. The Warriors also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.0 points a game. Since 2010, Dale County has gone a combined 69-73. Their 48.6% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Dale County has managed to compile a record of 130-140. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 4A and 212nd in the AHSAA. The Warriors will be under the direction of new head football coach Evan Ballard as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Ballard joined the Dale County staff in 2017 and spent four seasons at the school before joining the Daleville staff as offensive coordinator under Will Garner in 2021-22. The Warriors have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 73-44 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 4A and 7th in the AHSAA. This season, the Warriors will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. The Warriors open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Ariton on Friday, August 25 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Ariton Purple Cats finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 2A region two. The Purple Cats lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Highland Home by a score of 44-28. Dale County and Ariton have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 6-3-0 record against the Purple Cats. They last met in 2022 with Ariton winning by a score of 60-28. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
