 2023 Preview 


       Carroll completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region two, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Carroll's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gulf Shores by a score of 42-10.

       Since 2010, Carroll has gone a combined 62-74. Their 45.6% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Carroll has managed to compile a record of 112-149. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 5A and 255th in the AHSAA.




       The Eagles are led by head coach Patrick Plott who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-20 over the past three seasons at Carroll. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Plott. Over the course of his career, Coach Plott's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won five region championships. Coach Plott won a state championship at Pickens County in 2013.

       If Carroll can win two games this season, Coach Plott will reach the 100 win milestone. The Eagles have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-48 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 5A and 42nd in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season.

       The Eagles open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Dothan High on Thursday, August 24 at Rip Hewes Stadium. Last year the Dothan High Wolves finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in fourth place in Class 7A region two. The Wolves lost in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs to Auburn by a score of 48-20.

       Carroll and Dothan High have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-3-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2022 with Dothan High winning by a score of 45-19.

       Carroll lost 5A All-State  linebacker Karmelo Overton to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

       The Eagles return 5A All-State Junior offensive lineman Kevonte Dickerson. He was named to the second team last season.
