Valley completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Valley just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region four with a 1-4 region record. Valley was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.1 points a game. Since 2010, Valley has gone a combined 59-77. Their 43.4% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Valley has managed to compile a record of 132-135. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A and 206th in the AHSAA. The Rams are led by head coach Adam Hunter who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-16 over the past three seasons at Valley. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hunter. This will likely be the last season for Valley before they consolidate with Lafayette to form a new school in 2024. The Rams have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-48 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 5A and 30th in the AHSAA. The Rams will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. CB Jay Harper will be returning to anchor the defense in 2023. Also back will be the multi talented Cam Dooley. The Rams open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Handley on Friday, August 25 at Rams Field. Last year the Handley Tigers finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in second place in Class 4A region four. The Tigers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 21-14. Valley and Handley have met a total of 39 times on the football field.
